Wednesday Worship: Edition #13

Jun 25th, 2008 by angie | 5

Last week I picked up a copy of the Vacation Bible School CD for my children to be listening to in preparation for this week. I put it in the player in our van, and out belted the theme song for their “Power Lab” excitement. Then came on a song called Thankful. And I sat in the car in the WalMart parking lot and wept (and not because of how much I hate WalMart). My chaotic heart stilled hearing the sweet words of this song, a song my children have quickly memorized, and we sing it together all day long. I love children’s music for this very thing. It’s easy for me to get lost in the theology and the bigness of songs and forget the sweet simplicity of walking with Jesus. And being thankful.

One of the biggest fears I have is that I will forget these times. That I will go on about my life and not live changed. I am afraid that I will follow in the footsteps of the Israelites who constantly forgot about God’s faithfulness to them. I don’t want to lose this closeness to Christ. I don’t want to lose the thankful heart He has given me. I want to just daily say “I love you” to Him, lift my hands in praise and remember His goodness. Gratitude is healing. And gratitude points me back to the Giver of all gifts. The Giver of life.

I like to think about the goodness of the Lord.
He gives me everything I need and so much more.
So I just want to lift my hands and say that I love Him.
I just want to lift my heart in praise.

And I wanna be thankful.
I wanna be grateful
I wanna remember everything
That the Lord has done.
I wanna be thankful.
I wanna be grateful.
I wanna be… I wanna be… I wanna be

I like to think about the goodness of the Lord.
He gives me everything I need and so much more.
So I just want to lift my hands and say that I love Him.
I just want to lift my heart in praise.

And I wanna be thankful.
I wanna be grateful
I wanna remember everything
That the Lord has done.
I wanna be thankful.
I wanna be grateful.
I wanna be… I wanna be… I wanna be

Amen and amen! For what are you thankful this week?

I am thankful for Bible School this week and for all of the people ministering to my children there! I am thankful for three year old Chloe in her room at bedtime listening to her Bible school songs and being up out of bed doing the “commotions”(her word) that go along with each song (when she doesn’t think anyone can see her). I, too, thought about the sweetness of child-like faith as I watched her from the hall last night as she danced and sang. How it ministered to my heart to see her joyfully worshipping. I feel blessed to have “everything I need and so much more.”

What a great comparasion! To never forget to be thankful and always remember what great things God has taught us. I just love walking into the sanctuary early to pick up the kids and watch them praise the Lord together and lift up their hands to him. I love even more as these words sink in their heart and hearing them reflect on it.

I love the songs my children have been singing at Bible school this week as well! Even little Riley claps his hands and says “Dig, Dig, Dig!” Our theme is Dino Detectives, Digging for Truths in the Word of God! Oh, how we all need to do more of that!

    I am diig, dig, digging
For the truth, truth, truth, truth
In the Word, Word, Word, of God

    Repeat

He created in just six days
Everything that will give Him praise
I am dig, dig, digging for the truth in the Word of God!

Thank you for speaking to us through Your Word!

I am thankful for the Bible study group I have found here in Philly. Tonight we were talking about how God is the God of the living and not of dead and all [believers] live TO HIM- to enjoy and be in community with Him. And one day how that community will be ETERNAL and we will be like the angels-immortal and finally able to live in COMPLETE COMMUNITY with our Lord and Savior. I prayed this prayer tonight…I think it’s SUCH an encouraging prayer:

    Romans 8:18-25
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.

For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”
