You Can’t Hear God Talking

Jul 26th, 2006 by angie | 0

Well, I got another dose of challenging questions from Asher yesterday. He was being very disobedient, so i sat down with him and talked to him, telling him how he needed to obey Mommy.

Asher: Who says so?
Me: Well, God says, “Honor your father and mother.”
Asher: No, He doesn’t. You can’t hear God talking.
Me: But the Bible is God’s Word and that’s how God talks to us.
Asher: But heaven is too far away to hear Him.
Me: Well, He gave us all we need to know in the Bible.
Asher: Why doesn’t He just talk back when we pray? Then He could tell me to obey you and then I would.
Me: (opened the Bible to Ephesians 6 and explained how the Bible is the way God talks to us and how He says for children to obey their parents.)
Asher: But why did God give me parents?
Me: Well, to help us teach you about life and about Jesus… to help you learn and grow.
Asher: Daddy teaches better than you, Mommy. He’s my favorite. (then he holds up a matchbox tank) Does this shoot people?
